Richie Rhombus is a prolific being who I have encountered peforming in a tunnel, living in an ambulance in an experimental desert outpost, and parading a giant cat float around the streets of San Francisco.
His card decks are a neat way to get 90 portable printed pieces of his work at once, plus the game he invented. If you especially love one image, he might have the original available for you.

I was about 18 when I met Orien McNeill, through Nicole Recchia who attended the locally legendary Fine Arts Center with me. The truly alternative high school in our hometown of Greenville, South Carolina launched us suburban/rural kids out to these colleges in New York City. Looking back I have to say we had the knack for meeting the most interesting boys.
They were classmates at Pratt Institute along with Tod Seelie and Callie Curry (Swoon) who eventually knitted many of us into a kind of seagoing tribe. Little did I know how many adventures awaited us. After 25 years, many of us still work, live and make art (& art crime) together, brought together again by our loss of Orien at an unduly young age last year.
We have been so lucky to have Tod capturing a record of those times and of us.
Often shooting on the fly, Tod seems to bend available light to his will, producing unbelievable, emotion-filled shots from the front lines of mosh pits, celebrity artists, bike jousts, elegaic parking lots and roadside signs, protests, punks with Dust Bowl stoicism, the swamps of Italy and beyond.

Carri Skoczek is living the life in New York City. The Mermaid Parade, the Costume Institute, Rockaway Beach - the haunts worth haunting. I met Carri through my longtime running partner Dana Embree in New Orleans. Carri’s portrait of Dana hangs right inside her front porch doors, unmistakable.
Out of Carri’s series of oil portraits on paper it is hard to choose, but given I will be in France the next time this comes out, James Baldwin seemed to be the ticket. Her subjects range from contemporary to historical figures: artists, activists, chefs, writers, actors, musicians, friends, fashion designers, people seen on the streets - people she admires, past and present.
